The OIT Coffee House is a variety show at the University of Notre Dame. It features colleagues from the Office of Information Technologies and other departments, as well as family and friends. In June 2023, we held our 20th show as part of the IT@ND Retreat.
I founded the OIT Coffee House in 2014 after I realized I wasn’t the only one with a guitar in my office. Late in the day I would often hear guitars, ukuleles, even banjos and mandolins – and lots of singing. I believe strongly in finding ways for people to bring their whole selves to work, to share their talents, and to grow community by recognizing and appreciating one another. During 2020 and 2021, we held virtual shows and celebrated our togetherness even when we were apart.
OIT Coffee House is responsible for several lasting collaborations, including Sundays@9, Danimals, and what we believe is the only higher ed IT a capella group in the world, OIT Glee. These groups have performed at festivals, parties, funerals, and a wide variety of events.
In recent years we have hired an events company to film our shows so we can make them more widely available to remote staff, colleagues who couldn’t attend, and friends and family across the world. Find these recordings on our YouTube channel.
